The Law Society gazetted that Legal practitioners who fall within the scope of Item 1 of Schedule 1 to the Financial Intelligence Centre Act, 2001 (Act 38 of 2001) (FIC Act) must comply with all the obligations required of accountable institutions.

Legal practitioners are considered accountable institutions in terms of the FIC Act. This Directive is issued by the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) in terms of section 43A (1) of the Financial Intelligence Centre Act, 2001 (Act 38 of 2001) (the FIC Act.)

This means that lawyers will have to have checks done in order to get a job in a Law Firm.
